Job Description


  • The Headwear Product Developer is responsible for managing and owning the execution of all product development and on time sample delivery to the product development calendar.
  • Manage the research, development and quality of all melin product by serving as the liaison between the Designer, Overseas Production Team/Developer and Suppliers.
  • Consistently manage timelines with our manufacturing partners and material supply chain in an organized manner.
  • Ensure that all product is developed within established target FOB cost in order to achieve company margin goals.
  • Operate with a complete understanding of the development process.
  • Coordinate and own all phases of development from Design Handoff, Costing, Compliance, Product/Material Testing, and Fit/Wear Testing
  • Build and manage a seasonal development tracking report document, keeping it up to date and ensuring accuracy at all times.
  • Review and communicate design, fit and construction comments to the supplier & maintain the seasonal style design comment sheet at each sample stage.
  • Monitor & track all samples, trims, fabric, print, and color development approvals to/from Suppliers.
  • Ensure consistency in materials, construction and production techniques to provide superior product integrity across manufacturing base.
  • Build and manage all material and trims in company materials database.

 

Duties include but not limited to:


  • Serve as the technical & manufacturing resource for product line management, design, development and other members of the product team.
  • Manage all tech pack transmissions to the factory and catalog all tech packs on the server.
  • Contribute ideas for product design, construction, materials, and components to enhance functionality, aesthetics, duty, compliance, fit, and product margin.
  • Generate technical development packages and specs to communicate intended construction and aesthetic details for each project to overseas development partners and factories.
  • Proactively follow and report on the execution of all product details.
  • Evaluate product team feedback and implement revisions as appropriate.
  • Examine all prototypes to assure all specifications are correct and within product compliance, duty and cost targets.
  • Confirm final development confirmation samples arrive on time and ensure samples meet expected quality and accuracy standards.
  • Conduct and lead weekly meetings with overseas development team.
  • Assist on production quality issues when necessary.
  • Identify/alleviate potential manufacturing, efficiency and costing concerns during the product development cycle.
  • International travel (China: 2-3 times per calendar year) and domestic travel as required to achieve a high level of product and component development, including visits to manufacturing countries / factories, the melin Headquarters office and material/trade shows.
  • Sourcing and Development of new headwear materials.

 

 

Requirements


  • Bachelor’s Degree or applicable technical degree required.
  • At least 3 years of experience in product development and pattern making/fit (focusing on headwear, footwear or technical accessories)
  • Knowledge of new materials and innovative manufacturing techniques.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, work ethic, and teamwork.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Detail oriented, self motivated with strong decision-making capabilities.
  • Current industry standard technical knowledge of headwear development and manufacturing processes.
  • Demonstrate a passion for premium product and brand building.
  • Team player attitude required.
  • Experience with Asana is a plus.
  • Must be an awesome person passionate about being surrounded by other awesome people.
