We are looking to expand our internal family and are seeking one incredible human capable of bringing excellence into our fast paced work environment and eager to join an elite, yet small team of “A players”. We are seeking a new family member with a deep “soup to nuts” understanding of the apparel industry product/product development and production processes and knowledge of the competitive landscape as well as a fierce competitive drive to be the best. In this role we are seeking a person with a knack for analytics and a natural passion for optimization in a merchandising capacity. This person will also possess proven product management experience and expertise in understanding and interpreting consumer insight and market intelligence to maximize business growth and market share in accordance with melin's core product pillars; best in class materials, unique details and innovative design and performance. 

 

Reporting to the President and Cross-Functional leaders, you will define the in season and long-term product strategy for melin’s product offering across all business channels; DTC, Key Big Box Accounts, Best in Class SPP collaborations, Core Specialty and MPP (Co Branded) division. You will bring the most innovative and high quality headwear from idea through to fruition.

 

Responsibilities include leading a global team, managing product creation,  merchandising strategy and design/development process, from gathering consumer insights, to connecting business and marketplace analytics to continue to push the limits of what is new and what is possible in the headwear category to deliver the world’s best headwear experience for our target audience. We're also looking for...

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Obsessing the needs of the consumer, informed by deep consumer insights.
  • Bringing the long-term vision of the consumer segments to life aligned with consumer-led Product Line Architecture and Product Line Plans.
  • Defining the long-term Product Franchise strategy deeply informed by Marketplace insights and opportunities and aligned with a comprehensive Innovation pipeline.
  • Leading and executing product strategy to include a rolling, multi-season approach to product mix; franchise and classification excellence; and managing for product essentials, newness, innovation & exploration.
  • Ensuring consumer relevance and cadence of products and stories that integrate and provide clear consumer value propositions to create solutions as well as energy and excitement within our product matrix.
  • Focus on Product segmentation strategy in coordination with sales, marketing and Ecom departments.
  • Leading and empowering a diverse and high-performing Product Merchandising management function, while fostering strong cross-functional partnerships.
  • Drive Horizon calendar of new product concepts as well as long range product goals and expansions.
  • Building and sustaining strong partnerships with key cross functional shareholders; (Design Innovation, Development, Marketing, Planning, Digital).
  • Lead and manage product development team collaborating with design, development and production teams.
  • Lead and manage product design team and innovation role and deliverables.
  • Direct and manage project timelines, margin targets, sustainability requirements, product quality standards and revenue plans according to annual corporate goals.
  • Be the expert resource within the Product Team on all development including materials, construction techniques, product standards, tooling, manufacturing processes, factory capabilities and partner relationships.
  • Manage Pre-Season and seasonal planning work within the Go to Market (GTM) calendar to ensure hand-off readiness to product development of new materials, innovation projects and fabrication methods prior to seasonal product brief kick-offs.
  • Own the product GTM Calendar for the department and be accountable to the company for creating, implementing and executing against the GTM calendar and its key dates and deliverables as well as the entire product teams KPI’s within.
  • Responsible for product realization including the planning and evolution of product lines. Accountable for the profitability of the business, including Initial Gross Margin %, Gross Revenue, tight sku counts, and OPEX. Provides leadership to managers, supervisors and/or professional staff. Develops category plans, including business, production and organizational priorities.

Requirements For The Position Include

  • 7+ years' relevant experience in product-related roles
  • Product line experience and apparel, accessories, headwear product knowledge
  • Strong business orientation, analytical aptitude, and retail math
  • Strong business management experience with P&L responsibility
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including meeting facilitation and presentations
  • Eagerness to jump in at any level of product creation as needed by the team
  • Proven record of leadership and accomplishment in a multi-national environment.
  • Ability to travel, domestic or international, as required
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, adapt to change. Making quick yet well thought out decisions will be essential in this role
  • Chinese, Vietnamese cultural knowledge and language a plus.
